Our Mission:
  • To make aware and promote the growth and success of Native American owned business in Indiana
  • To assist and promote the growth of new Native American owned businesses
  • To improve the economic and well being of all Native Americans
 
Who are we?

We are a group of Native Americans in Indiana with businesses ranging from the arts to heavy equipment and construction.

Our objective is to provide business education and training programs to cultivate quality entrepreneurial skills.

 

 

Native American Heritage Day

 

Join us for our first ever Native American Heritage Day at Garfield Park on Saturday, August 29, 2009

In partnership with the City of Indianapolis and the Office of Mayor Gregory A. Ballard, the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi and St. Francis Hospital; 

The Indiana Native American Business Association

welcomes you to join in the festivities of the INAUGURAL NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE DAY. This very special event is FREE to the public and is dedicted to the recognition and celebration of the modern and thriving Native American Cultures at-home in Indiana. 

 

What makes it so special?

 

The Indiana Native American Heritage Day is the first of its kind in the city of Indianapolis.  A celebration of Native American heritage and culture has been planned, organized and directed by a Board of Native Americans, recruiting Native American artisans and food vendors, and highlighted with a traditional powwow, stick ball game, flute playing and arts and crafts for the children.

Mayor Ballard will participate in the Opening Ceremonies at 12:30 pm with the elders from the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi.

 

Schedule of events:

 

10:00 am    Indiana Native American Business Association Business Seminar

 

Speakers:  Oliva Little  (Ponca); Tamara Cata Lawson (Okey-Owengey); Rebecca Riall (Eastern Band Cherokee); Felica Bryant  (Navajo Dine'); Prof. Charmayne Champion-Shaw (Southern Cheyenne) Dr. Johnny Flynn (Pokagon Band Potawatomi) and a panel discussion by Native students from Ball State, IUPUI, IU and Purdue.

 

12:30 pm   Mayor Gregory Ballard and the Pokagon Band Potawatomi open the ceremony with a Grand Entry to the Powwow Circle.

 

On going activities until dusk including flute playing, storytelling, food and arts and crafts for the children. 

A stick ball game between IUPUI, Ball State, IU, and Purdue.

 Tribal booths will feature their traditions, culture, foods, dwellings and arts.

 

 The event is free..please join us.
